Welcome to the Milton Keynes Branch of the
Alzheimer's Society

Announcement

We are sorry to inform you that this web-site will close at the end of October 2009. The Society have decreed that no branch may have an independent web-site.

This site was designed, funded and managed by volunteers. There was no cost to the Society or the Branch. However as we have made use of the society logo and publicised society and branch affairs we have no option but to acquiesce to their wishes.

We created the site as a tribute to a loving, gentle wife and mother, and as a thank-you gesture to the Milton Keynes branch for all the support and advice we have received during a very difficult time. It was intended to bring the society and branch to the attention of those in need. With numerous hits and referrals we feel we achieved that aim.

Joan Wagstaff was diagnosed with Alzheimer's ten years ago. For nearly four years she has been in care at St.Giles Stony Stratford, in the ultimate stage of this dreadful illness.

Who Are We?

We are the local branch of the National Society (Charity Number 296645) which was founded in 1979 by Mrs. Cora Phillips M.B.E with the help and cooperation of Mrs. Morella Kayman to provide help and support for families supporting people with any form of Dementia, of which Alzheimers Disease is the most common.

The Branch was formed in 1997 by Frank Smith who remained chairman until retiring from the society in 2004. We owe a great deal to his hard work and vision.

What Do We Do?

First and foremost we provide a haven where people who are caring for someone with Dementia can come for support, advice and friendship.

We hold carers group meetings, social and fund raising events and provide one to one support, home visits can be arranged.

We have good working relationships with Care Homes and other Carers Organisations to ensure that the message gets out that help is available.

We try to ensure that our staff are kept as up-to-date as possible on all relevant matters.

We can advise on most of the problems arising for carers, if we cannot help, then we almost certainly know someone who can.

Where Are We?

The Stables, Vicarage Road, Stony Stratford, Milton Keynes. MK11 1GA

We have a secure office which can be used for confidential work (‘phone calls, meeting visitors, one to one counselling etc.,) even when meetings are in progress.

The main hall is a well furnished lounge area, with a homely atmosphere suitable for group meetings. The far end of the hall is screened off and provides more office space for non-confidential work and room for volunteers to work.

We are well equipped with modern office technology. We have the equipment and skills to administer the branch efficiently. To design and print our own leaflets, to prepare presentations and to hold training days.
